As we have already had a little snow up in scotland I thought I would start the snow watch page up. This page is for you to document where we have our first snow of the season, either on the webcams or in your local town.

fair to say it's snowing

Bit slow in Scandinavia this year, as it was last, but models showing day 10 or so things will change, expect northern areas of Finland, Sweeden and Norway to get their first proper snowfall later next weekend.

Snow season has finally got underway in Levi Finland!

Ruka (links below) below also forecast heavy snow today, however it is due to turn to rain tomorrow and then back to snow Friday before the freeze sets in. Should stay as snow in Levi throughout.

Another live one for Finland....

First snow on my local munro yesterday (Ben Lomond).

Looks like we’ve got our first hints of winter arriving, Scotland is seeing the season’s first yellow warning for snow, and there’s also a yellow warning for ice further south. The first proper cold snap of the year is finally here. Anyone else noticing a real chill settling in? What are things looking like where you are?

Big downgrades for us, no snow expected now at all. After just a couple of days ago being forecast snow Tues/Wed/Thursday and Friday. Always seems to be the way.

I know forecasts do, but I wonder if model outputs are programmed to "er on the side of caution". And make predictions a little more severe than the raw data suggests, esspecially further out.

For sure forecasts do, because loads of people would complain if the snowstorm / wind / rain event was underforecast, and few would if it was overforecast.

It's as if models "seek drama" esspecially further out.
