Storm Amy began life earlier this week in the Atlantic, developing rapidly as a deep area of low pressure. Fuelled by warm ocean air and a strong jet stream, it has intensified on its eastward track and is now heading directly toward the UK.

Forecast models show Amy sweeping across the country through Friday and Saturday, bringing a mix of heavy rainfall and powerful winds. Coastal regions, particularly in the west and southwest, are expected to feel the first impacts before the system moves further inland. As it tracks northeast, Amy could bring widespread rain, gusty conditions, and the potential for localised flooding and travel disruption.

  • Never attempt to drive through floodwater.
  • Secure outdoor items like bins, furniture, or trampolines.
  • Keep torches, batteries, and essential supplies ready in case of power loss.

56 mph so far top gust, not expecting anything exceptional here, maybe squeeze a mid 60 tomorrow.

Some power loss here in staffordshire, localised flooding but nothing major here, top gusts in staffordshire were 48mph
