Heavy Snow East Yorkshire and Humberside

❄️ SNOW AND WINTRY SHOWERS HIT THE EAST COAST – WHITBY & SCARBOROUGH REPORTS
🌨️ Overnight & This Morning

Across the Yorkshire Coast, heavy snow showers moved in from the North Sea overnight and into today, affecting coastal towns from Whitby to Scarborough and beyond. Local weather observers on Facebook have reported significant snow showers and drifting snow, especially close to the shoreline as Arctic airflow continues to feed moisture inland.

The snow has been locally heavy at times, forming streamers — narrow, intense bands of snow showers coming in off the sea — that can deliver accumulations in some spots while leaving areas just a few miles inland much lighter.

📍 Whitby

Reports from social posts indicate heavy snow has arrived in Whitby with snow covering streets and open areas.

The official forecast shows frequent snow showers continuing today, with gusty winds from the northwest making it feel much colder.

A Yellow Met Office warning for snow and ice was in place through Saturday night, highlighting disruption potential.

📍 Scarborough

Social reports describe blizzard-like conditions with snow falling strongly and some main routes reported blocked, such as around the A171 between Scarborough and Whitby.

Traffic and travel teams have noted snow drifting onto exposed roads, affecting visibility and making driving conditions treacherous.

🛣️ Travel Impact

Local news is reporting hazardous driving conditions on regional roads, especially:

A169 near Whitby

A171 Scarborough–Whitby

A170 between Scarborough and Pickering

Snow drifts and icy patches are forming, and train services between Bridlington and Scarborough have been cancelled or disrupted.

🚨 Weather Warnings & Next 24–48 Hours

A Yellow Warning for snow and ice remains in force across much of the Yorkshire Coast; conditions are expected to remain unsettled with more showers this afternoon and early evening.

Snow will gradually ease through Saturday night, but icy surfaces, drifting snow and slippery conditions are likely to persist.

🌡️ Temperatures & Feel

Actual temps in the region today are generally just above freezing, but with winds off the North Sea the feels-like temperatures are well below freezing — enhancing travel and frost risk.
